Win The Interview: Say Less

Who doesn't love a great story? We've all been captivated by an exceptional storyteller. Whether sharing a funny tale or crafting a suspenseful narrative, a good story draws us in and keeps us engaged. On the other hand, we've also met people who tell long, boring stories that leave us drained and disinterested.

In an interview, storytelling is critically important in setting us apart from the competition. Unfortunately, many candidates make the mistake of giving long, unclear answers that lack results. When we’re nervous, talking to someone new, and really want to sound impressive, it’s easy to ramble and get off track. We get it! But rambling when answering a question can give the wrong impression, and cost you the job.

It’s important to prepare ahead of time so you can give concrete examples of your experience and abilities. This helps the interviewer understand who you are, what you have accomplished, and how you approach problem solving. And, almost every role requires solid communication skills. By telling clear and engaging stories, you demonstrate your communication skills, and stand out in a compelling and memorable way.

But telling great stories isn't a gift reserved only for the chosen few. Thankfully storytelling can be learned. At The Resume Rehab, we teach the BRAG method to showcase your strengths, build rapport and demonstrate your communication skills with zero ramble.
