Squash the Sunday Scaries
Do you feel trapped by your circumstances at work? π¬ Have Sunday Scaries got a death grip on you?
I hear you. In fact, I hear this every day as many of our clients are looking to leave their jobs or have been recently affected by layoffs.
It doesn't feel great to be in this position. You want help. You want to feel better.
As gently as I can put this, I have to tell you that feelings lead to actions. Actions determine direction, and actions performed over time create reality.
You can change your feelings, and you can change your life.
Let's look at two examples.
EXAMPLE 1
"My work environment is toxic. After all of these layoffs I'm doing the work of three people without any more money. I feel sick to my stomach thinking about going to work tomorrow."
*tomorrow*
"I'll sleep in a little longer. It's ok to show up late, nobody cares. It's OK if I do the bare minimum, I don't even like this job."
Over time, apathy encompasses your output at work and people start to notice your lack of contribution. (Feeling β‘ Action)
Eventually you're seen as dead weight to the team and you're asked to leave.
"Ugh, I guess it's time to dust off my resume and start applying for jobs."
EXAMPLE 2
"My work environment is changing. I need to stay alert to opportunity now more than ever. I feel nervous but excited about taking on new responsibilities because this additional experience will look great on my resume."
Over time, determination drives you to write down the contributions you're making and you develop them into success stories. (Feeling β‘ Action)
You invest more heavily into alliances at work, and expand your network outside of work. (Feeling β‘ Action)
Eventually you're either promoted or affected by layoff.
Promoted: "Yay, I'm prepared for this!"
Layoff: "Ok, I'm prepared for this!"
In EXAMPLE 2, the perspective is all about accountability.
By choosing your feelings you control your perspective, and your actions shift.
External circumstances roll off you like water off a duck's back. π¦
If you're feeling stressed, worried, or helpless in your role, let's talk.
Let us help you own your perspective and take control of your future.
